On Oct 7th 2013, my husband and I were traveling to New york. since our friend lives near Newburg airport we flew from Philadelphia to Newburg in a small plane. Unfortunately, on this particular day, the wind was fierce. Our pilot reported he had never seen turbulence this bad! ! All I can say is, it was too bad! I don’t enjoy flying in the first place, and my fear of turbulence in air increased my discomfort. For at least an hour, our plane bounced up and down with such violence I was certain we would crash. Obviously, we didn’t, I am still here to tell you about the terrifying event. But I was sweating and could feel my stomach churning and felt like throwing up. When we finally landed in Newburg we had to walk a great length and for the very first time in my life, I found out what it was like to have my knees knock. All of a sudden my legs started shaking. I had not even realized how frightened I had become until that moment.
An unknown author says , the wise man in a storm prays to God, NOT for safety from danger, but for DELIVERANCE FROM FEAR!
This is exactly what we find Jesus’ disciples doing when caught in a terrible storm on Galilee. The wild waves left them feeling as if they might die. But then, to add to their fear, a figure, that they mistook for a ghost, appeared on the water walking toward them. And then these words came from the figure, Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid” (Matthew 14: 27).
When the disciples did not recognize Jesus coming across the water they grew fearful but the moment Jesus said, “It is I,”their fear melted away.
As we enter this new year 2014, we may face the unknown, we may not know what will happen next, we may be frightened.
BUT the presence of Jesus banishes all FEAR!
I pray that you will have a WONDERFUL NEW YEAR 2014 – WALKING WITH JESUS!
