This morning as I was working around the house, I noticed our beautiful lamp that is placed on a table top decorating our living room was not connected to the electric plug at all. When I looked at this lamp without power to give light, I remembered the words of David in Psalms 119,
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Our lamp is not a show piece, it is very much in working order. The outside is gorgeous, and the internal electrical parts are functional. But since the lamp is not connected to the source of power, there is no light. Basically, our lamp is a pretty piece of painted glass and serves as a decoration rather than an illumination.
I’m sure David had this knowledge, when he said God’s Word became a power source that resulted in the spread of light. This got me to thinking about a song I learned as a child …..
‘This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine’
While the message of this song is an admirable one, David’s words help us to understand that letting our light shine is a result of being filled with God’s Word.
When my life and yours is infused with God’s Spirit and His Words, there will be a natural consequence that develops and light will flood out of me and you in a simple and genuine way!
BUT when we are not connected to the source of power, we will not be sharing God’s light!
This is why sometimes we see non Christians mocking at those who call themselves Christians. And believe me, there’s nothing worst than a fraudulent attempt to spread light , especially if it is done just to make us look better or holy or spiritual than others.
Don’t you want to be so filled with God’s Word so that the Light of His love fills you everyday!
Come on! Get yourself connected to the heavenly source, the Word of God and then you will radiate heavenly light to those around you!
