On this Sunday evening, the hot and humid weather in Chennai made me look back to the pleasant monsoon we had in the mountains where we usually spend our summer months.
During the monsoon months, from June to August, we are treated to monsoon rains which begins in Kerala. When massive clouds roll in, lightening and thunder become a routine. Last time after a violent storm a beautiful rainbow covered the mountains! The colors and the beauty took my breath away!
For those of us brought up in Chennai, rainbow is a rare treat.I have to tell you, it gave me chills to look at a rainbow when I was a child! My mother told me that rainbow is a sign of God’s promise to us!
In Israel when a 2000 year old boat that was buried in the shores of the Sea of Galilee was discovered, when everyone wondered if it was the one that was used by Jesus who is known as the Man of Galilee, they witnessed a double rainbow that adorned the sky as if the Lord was assuring them of its certainty.
And what is a PROMISE?
In the Hebrew, the word covenant is a promise made in blood. In the Greek, the word covenant is used as we would use for Will and Testaments.
When a covenant is made between two people, It means their word is good and It means they won’t let you down.
It means when God told Joshua, I will be with thee, I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee that He meant what He said (Joshua 1:5.)
And in Hebrews 13:5, Paul reminded those he was writing to, that when God made a promise and we could trust Him. God hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
But God does not just say that I can trust Him to be there for me always, He also tells me that what He says will never pass away (Luke 21:33). Now that is a promise I can always count on. These are words spoken by the One I can trust in the good times and bad times. Someone who is always there for me when I need Him most.
And to make certain that I don’t forget His Promise, God sends me a reminder. After every rain storm, when the sun appears, God says, look in the sky at the rainbow, and don’t forget you mean something to me and we have an agreement , the two of us and we belong to each other!
What a sign to remind me that I mean something to God, and He brings fulfillment, and completeness to my life by keeping His word of Promise to me!
Trust His promises everyday and this storm of Covid Pandemic will pass soon and you will see a rainbow in your life!
