This evening I was reading I Samuel 25 where we read about a man named Nabal.
What I find extremely interesting is that before we are even told this person’s name, we get to take a look at his financial ledger which made me think that Nabal was considered by society a great and rich.
But interestingly enough, right after listing all the things that made Nabal appear successful, the Bible says he was a fool. In fact, the word fool is the meaning of Nabal’s name.
Wait! This man had everything in the world but something huge was lacking!
If we go through I Samuel 25 we find those who knew Nabal best, like his wife Abigail who lived with him called him, a son of Belial. And David who encountered Nabal, says in Psalm 14: 1 “A fool has said in their heart, there is no God. Perhaps David had Nabal in his mind while writing this.
Somewhere along the line in his life, while he had a comfortable rich life, and a good looking wife, Nabal decided that he didn’t need God.
I hear some one whispering now, when we have all that we need why should we need God?
Please note! A fool is a person who says, I don’t need God, for I can do everything myself. And what a dangerous mistake it is for any of us to make!
How many times like Nabal we think we can accomplish everything through our good job, wealth and knowledge! And how many times like Nabal we think we don’t need God at all because our life is very comfortable now!
Don’t you realize that we need the Lord and His protection right now!
Let us not forget that we need Him every minute of our life! Let me urge you today, whatever you do please begin with God, stay with God and don’t forget to end with God!
