On this Sunday evening I was thinking of the delicate mint plants that have grown around our home in Valparai. It is extremely rocky terrain. We have been building supportive walls on the pathway with stones that were unearthed right there.
Last week while I was there, I saw the tiny mint plants and some tiny wild flower peeking out from under the big stones that are piled one on another and cemented.. It is as if the entangled tiny plant is shouting, hey rock you cannot stunt my growth and cannot destroy me!
The effect of shame in our lives is almost like the weight caused by heavy rocks on plants. They constantly give us embarrassment of unworthiness.
For some of you possibly shame has been a constant companion in your life for a very long time and it is like an open wound. Then I know you will be able to relate to the woman who had an issue of blood for twelve years (Mark 5). The entire being of the woman and all her money was slipping away.
Thank God! her story did not end there! As she reached out and touched Jesus, the years that the locusts had stolen were restored. Her. Her shame was swept away in a flood of healing love!
Is there a shame in your life that needs to be faced? Is there anything that you cannot share with others but weighs you down like rock? Do you feel delicate and pressed down under the burden? Entangled beneath the stone with life’s problems?
If so let us face it sooner rather than later! That is the only way to get the healing touch of Christ’s garment, stop the bleeding and the draining of our resources!
Jesus’ touch will remove your shame! He promises to restore back your life!
And I will restore or replace for you the years that the locust has eaten … and you shall be satisfied and praise the name of the Lord, your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never be put to shame.
